Wednesday, February 24, 2:00-3:00 pm
MacVittie College Union Hunt Room
We've all heard the adage that 90% of communication is nonverbal - even with an excellent command of language, most of what you communicate to others is the result of nonverbal information you provide. When speaking, do you us the common hand gesture that increases your credibility by half? (Less than one percent of people do.) When dressing, do you wear the common necktie or scarf pattern that causes your audience to think you are smarter? (Less than ten percent do.) When writing a paper, do you use the common font that makes your opinion seem well-reasoned? (Less than half do.) Would you like to be seen as trustworthy, powerful, thoughtful, and a good listener? This session is about the value of understanding how people communicate, and the rewards that come from revealing your inner strengths in your communication with others.

Life and leadership involve conflict, and getting people to work together effectively involves learning to live with conflict. Conflict is often seen as a negative phenomenon to be ignored, avoided or eliminated as quickly as possible. Perception shapes reality, and the way we think about conflict matters! In line with Peter Senge's notion of the learning organization, this session will explore the perception of conflict as a lesson and our capacity to learn and grow from the experience of conflict.
