GOLD Mission Statement

The Geneseo Opportunities for Leadership Development program seeks to prepare students for leadership roles and responsibilities in service to the college and the global community. Our mission is accomplished through education, development, and training of students in an extensive series of personal development programs, institutes, leadership certificates, service learning, volunteer work, and active engagement in college and community life.

This required workshop for the gold level of the Leadership Certificate Program will provide participants with a review of the history of leadership theories and concepts. This session is limited to students completing gold certificates in the spring semester of 2012.

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH GOLD LEADER MENTOR STAFF. This session is one of the four required workshops for the bronze leadership certificate. The GOLD Leader Mentor volunteer staff members have been trained to assist you in developing a personal plan for successfully completing the GOLD Certificate Program. You need to register for this session just like all other workshops. Make an appointment at the GOLD Leadership Center in MacVittie College Union 114, or call 245-5884, or e-mail gold@geneseo.edu. The mentor staff is available between 12:00-8 PM Monday through Thursday and 12:00-5:00 PM on Fridays.

Volunteer and Study Abroad Fair (Sapphire Certificate Requirement)

Representatives from college and community organizations will be present to recruit volunteers and explain their programs and services. Students involved in the GOLD program and the Sapphire Certificate Program should attend and visit with as many organizations as possible in order to discover the range of possibilities for volunteer involvement. Sapphire students will need to complete additional paper work and submit a reflection.

If Sustainability is the Solution, What is the Problem? (Jade Certificate Requirement)

All people on the planet participate in activities that impact the environment through use of power sources and water, heat, transportation, food consumption and waste production. The impacts of these activities differ depending on the technologies used and the number of people involved. This workshop will help participants better understand environmental issues related to overpopulation, consumption, pollution, climate change, etc. that result from human activities, and that have led to the rise of sustainability as a mindset/strategy to mitigate these problems. The workshop will follow the theme of "Think Globally, Act Locally" by examining the issues from a global perspective, considering the campus community's carbon footprint, and helping participants understand their individual contributions to the problems through the use of an ecological footprint calculator.

Developing a Personal Leadership Model (Gold Certificate Requirement)

The Gold level of the Leadership Certificate Program requires students to articulate written and verbal statements of their personal philosophy of leadership. This informal coaching session will provide students with an opportunity to work on their model with the assistance of the instructor. Reference materials and resources will be available. This session is limited to students planning to complete the Gold certificate this semester.

A can't miss annual conference presented by the professional staff at Paychex, one of Rochester's top employers. Learn about the building blocks of leadership from Jeff Grenzer - Director, Leadership and Organizational Development. Break out session topics include Effective Communication, Making a Difference, and Building a Resume & Career Tips. Bring two copies of your resume for Paychex recruiters to critique and to potentially submit for internship and full-time opportunities. Business Professional dress is required and you must provide your own transportation. Registration is limited to 10 students. REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS JANUARY 20th. A $10.00 deposit is required and will be refunded after the conference. Refunds will not be provided for no-shows. Please drop off a check to the GOLD office in the MacVittie College Union, Room 353 made payable to GOLD by noon on January 20th.
